Stopping TEXT FLOW around image

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Images#Stopping_the_text_flow

The text flow can be stopped by placing <br clear=all> (or if you prefer, <div style="clear: both"></div>) before the text that should start below the floating image.
add <br clear=all> element before text to alleviate aggravation :-)

Citations AKA References section

  • EEK! Tedium ALERT
  • https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite
  • A tag name refers to giving a footnote a unique identifier, use
    <ref name="name">
    • Current MediaWiki version does not allow integer tag names but you can bypass that by prefixing with a colon, ie
      <ref name=":4">
      (sub-optimal)
    • Unfortunately as the article changes over time the numeration can change.
    • A better practice would be to use a named identifier as a prefix such as the last name or string of the first part of the citation, ie
      <ref name="buffy4">
      and lowercase to be xml conformant for future proofing. This retains the original numeration from the user and introduces a unique name to trace back to the footnoted reference
    • Of course users can go back in the version History of the page and decipher the changes themselves.

vim substitution regex for hard coded numbered citations

%s/^\(\d*\)\.\s*\(\w*\)\(\s\|,\)\(.*\)/<ref name="\l\2\1">\1 \2\3\4<\/ref>/gc
g/<ref name="\w*">/call append(14,matchstr(getline("."),@/))
# where 14 is the line after all the formatted citations, the last line + 1

15,$s/>$/\/>/g
#close the tags

Easy peasy workflow for adding citations

  • Get your citation at PubMed: example citation: Artificial intelligence for diabetic retinopathy screening: a review
  • Under Format at upper left, select from the drop down: Summary (text) example citation in plain text
  • With copy and paste, stick that plain text between ref tags <ref></ref> and stick the whole thing in the body of the content that you are citing
  • Under Edit Source, it should look like this: New developments in automated DR detection algorithms can in diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening <ref>Grzybowski A, Brona P, Lim G, Ruamviboonsuk P, Tan GSW, Abramoff M, Ting DSW. Artificial intelligence for diabetic retinopathy screening: a review. Eye (Lond). 2019 Sep 5. doi: 10.1038/s41433-019-0566-0. [Epub ahead of print] Review. PubMed PMID: 31488886.</ref>
  • For extra credit, make it a named reference: <ref name="grzybowski">Grzybowski A, Brona P, Lim G, Ruamviboonsuk P, Tan GSW, Abramoff M, Ting DSW. Artificial intelligence for diabetic retinopathy screening: a review. Eye (Lond). 2019 Sep 5. doi: 10.1038/s41433-019-0566-0. [Epub ahead of print] Review. PubMed PMID: 31488886.</ref>
  • That wasn't so hard, was it?

Cataract/Anterior Segment: December EyeWiki Update

Dear EyeWiki Editors,

Since January 1, 2025 we have added 31 new articles. We have also collectively edited 1415 articles since the start of the year out of our current 1702 articles.

Section Statistics

  • All EyeWiki Sections should be at least 60% up to date. Special thanks and appreciation to those sections that were at or above 80% at the end of June and July:
    • June: Oculoplastics - 89%
    • July: Oculoplastics - 94%
  • We will be gathering section statistics at the end of each month to share here and at the annual all Editors Meeting. Please regularly review and maintatin your articles to keep your section up to date.

Tip of the Month: Can I use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for EyeWiki contributions?

  • Contributors may use AI (e.g., generative AI models) in scientific writing solely to improve readability and language of the work, not to replace essential research and writing tasks
  • AI must be used with human oversight in order to avoid incorrect, incomplete, or biased output
  • AI cannot be listed as a contributor
  • Contributors are accountable for the contents of their work, and each contributor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the work
  • Contributors must ensure that their work is original and does not infringe on third-party rights

Find Your Article Assignments

  • Please visit your own section Portal to review the status of your section and your assigned articles
  • Log in and go to the My Portal link at the top of the page next to "Recent Changes"

  • Also, find your article assignments on your Talk page between your Name (after logging in) and Preferences
  • Review the Quick-Start Guide for Editors for helpful tips. For easy reference, this guide is also linked to each section Portal page

Sign Off When You Have Finished an Article Review

  • When you complete an article review go to Edit with Form at the top of the article and change:
    • The date to be current
    • The status to Up to Date
    • The reviewer's name to your own (This is how we know which editor last reviewed an article assigned to more than 1 EyeWiki section)
